A worthwhile cost-effective alternative to alkalines - particularly if your usage is fairly heavy. Good for about one hour once they've dipped below the 2.4V mark.
This is the best result for NiMH - thanks to Marcus Selle:-
Marcus's comments : This is another performance chart of my GP
NiMH 1500mah rechargeables. The remarkable thing is that I just
changed my charger to the Ansmann Powerline 4 and squeezed over
300mah and over 5 h more out of the same set of rechargeables!
Thanks to Mario Collado for the hint with the charger. So it seems
that often it is not the rechargable but the charger which is the
deciding factor. Once again my hardware: S5 mx with 32MB CF card.
This chart was produced while heavy usage (Web, email, backups,
backlight).
Here's one for (good) NiMH rechargeable batteries - sorry about the 3
hour lapse while PsLight5 wasn't in use. Thanks to Mario Collado y
Selas for this one. Exact machine specification not given.
High capacity 1500mAh type. Thanks to Marcus Selle again for this
one. Machine is a German spec. S5mx pro. with a 32MB CF card. Note
that the hour indicators are closer together than the one above
meaning that the consumption rate is lower. This agrees with my own
findings that NiMH types actually perform best for extended periods
at higher power drain, eg. with backlight. [See above for the
pleasing result obtained just by changing the charger]
