There's been a lot in the news lately about the possibility of people being cut off from the internet if they're involved in illegal file sharing. According to Which?, several innocent people have found themselves wrongly accused of this activity (see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8129261.stm )

Appears the government is considering making ISPs monitor all internet usage and it will cost £2 billion to set it up.
Unbelievable!
This has to be the silliest IT move by any government this century, as well as a ridiculous waste of money. Has it never occurred to anyone that if all such communications are monitored, criminal elements can easily respond in a number of ways? :-
* use public internet connections, or large private ones where the individual can easily hide
